Cultural outing "Covered Passages"

🕰️ Paris Out of Time: A Getaway in the Covered Passages

Forget the noisy boulevards and endless museum queues. Today, I'm taking you to my favorite open secret: the covered passages of Paris . True time-traveling bubbles nestled in the heart of the Right Bank, these arcades transport us straight back to the 19th century.

Why do we love them?

Built to protect the bourgeoisie from mud and horses, these forerunners of shopping malls have retained a captivating charm. Beneath their magnificent glass roofs, one finds a hushed atmosphere, antique bookshops, and a golden light that makes everything... poetic.

An Hour's Walk (The Ideal Route)

If you only have an afternoon, here's the optimized itinerary so you don't miss anything:

  1. Starting at the Palais Royal: Begin by admiring Buren's columns before heading to the Galerie Vivienne . It's the most elegant, perfect for photos.

  2. Crossing towards the Passage Choiseul: The longest in Paris. You can feel the energy of the theatre district there.

  3. The magical sequence: Cross Boulevard Montmartre to go from Passage des Panoramas to Passage Jouffroy , then finish with Passage Verdeau (a paradise for antique collectors).

Practical note: Most of the arcades close around 8pm. For a truly magical atmosphere, go in the late afternoon when the shops light up, or on a rainy day to listen to the raindrops drumming on the glass roofs.
