🕰️ Paris Out of Time: A Getaway in the Covered Passages
Forget the noisy boulevards and endless museum queues. Today, I'm taking you to my favorite open secret: the covered passages of Paris . True time-traveling bubbles nestled in the heart of the Right Bank, these arcades transport us straight back to the 19th century.
✨ Why do we love them?
Built to protect the bourgeoisie from mud and horses, these forerunners of shopping malls have retained a captivating charm. Beneath their magnificent glass roofs, one finds a hushed atmosphere, antique bookshops, and a golden light that makes everything... poetic.
Imagine a Paris without cars or mud, bathed in zenithal light filtered through immense iron and glass structures. These ancestors of modern shopping malls, born during the Restoration era. It is here, between marble columns and vintage clocks, that the heart of the Parisian "flâneur" beats.
For our international students, it’s a dream opportunity to practice French in a setting worthy of a movie set.

✨ Top 3 Must-See Scenes
Passage | Atmosphere | The little "+" |
Galerie Vivienne | Chic and majestic | The mosaics on the floor and the Jousseaume bookstore. |
Passage des Panoramas | Gourmet and vintage | Philatelists and trendy restaurants. |
Jouffroy Passage | Playful and lively | The Grévin Museum and its iron and glass structure. |

✨ An Hour's Walk (The Ideal Route)
If you only have an afternoon, here's the optimized itinerary so you don't miss anything:
Starting at the Palais Royal: Begin by admiring Buren's columns before heading to the Galerie Vivienne . It's the most elegant, perfect for photos.
Crossing towards the Passage Choiseul: The longest in Paris. You can feel the energy of the theatre district there.
The magical sequence: Cross Boulevard Montmartre to go from Passage des Panoramas to Passage Jouffroy , then finish with Passage Verdeau (a paradise for antique collectors).
Practical note: Most of the arcades close around 8pm. For a truly magical atmosphere, go in the late afternoon when the shops light up, or on a rainy day to listen to the raindrops drumming on the glass roofs.
Galerie Vivienne: Pure Elegance
This is undoubtedly the most beautiful passage in Paris. Our intermediate and advanced students admired the mosaic floors signed by Giandomenico Facchina. It is the ideal place to discuss neoclassical architecture and marvel at the Jousseaume bookstore, which has been in business since 1826.
Passage des Panoramas: A Gourmet Journey
Here, the atmosphere changes. We leave luxury behind for conviviality. Between the philately shops (vintage stamps) and trendy restaurants, conversations come alive. It’s the perfect moment to learn how to read a typical bistro menu or chat with passionate shopkeepers.
Passage Jouffroy & Passage Verdeau: A Collector's Paradise
Crossing Boulevard Montmartre brings us into a world of metal and wood. Passage Jouffroy, with its famous Musée Grévin, captivated our younger students with its playful side. We ended the walk in the quiet of Passage Verdeau, where antique dealers and art galleries offer a peaceful atmosphere perfect for reflection.
🎓 The EDAM Experience: More Than a Visit, a Community
What sets a cultural outing with EDAM Paris apart is the guidance. Our teachers don’t just lead the way; they build linguistic bridges.
Contextual Learning: Asking for the price of an old postcard, ordering a café allongé at the famous Le Valentin tea room, or understanding the history of the Industrial Revolution... everything happens naturally, in French.
International Connections: Seeing a Brazilian student exchange impressions with a Japanese student in front of a window display of rare books is, for us, the greatest success.
✨ Want to experience Paris from the inside?
These exceptional moments are an integral part of our pedagogy. We want our students to return home with heads full of memories and renewed confidence in their ability to live the Parisian life.
📍 Next Stop: The history of the capital through the centuries at the Musée Carnavalet. 📅
Registration: Places are limited! See you at the school reception or send us a message on our social media platforms.
✨ Don’t just learn French. Live it with EDAM Paris.
